Bio

Joel serves as University Chaplain at LCC International University, where he creates opportunities for students to explore questions of faith, meaning, and purpose in a welcoming and supportive environment. He is passionate about walking alongside people from all religious and worldview backgrounds as they navigate life’s challenges and spiritual journeys.

Joel holds a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies from Calvin College and a Master of Divinity from Calvin Theological Seminary. He is also pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree at Western Theological Seminary, expected in May 2027. Before becoming University Chaplain in 2024, he served as LCC Chaplain from 2019 to 2024 and completed pastoral internships at various churches between 2016 and 2019. A devoted coffee enthusiast, Joel also helps oversee Common Grounds Café, LCC’s on-campus coffee shop, where many meaningful conversations begin over a cup of coffee.
