LCC Philology Department Supports English Interpretive Reading Contest

2025-11-25

On November 20, LCC International University’s Philology Department once again supported the annual Interpretive Reading Competition hosted at Klaipėdos Ąžuolyno Gimnazija. Twenty-eight talented school students from across Klaipėda participated, each delivering a 3–4 minute interpretive reading based on a selected literary passage.

To prepare for the event, students chose excerpts from novels, stories, and poems, and practiced how to use their voice to convey meaning—focusing on tone, pacing, inflection, and emotional expression. This year’s selections included works by Oscar Wilde, Carl Chinn, Dante Alighieri, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Edgar Allan Poe.

LCC faculty members Meaghan Howard and Dr. Robin Gingerich served as contest judges. Winners received prizes from LCC International University, encouraging them to continue advancing their English skills and academic ambitions.

This partnership is one example of how LCC’s Philology program invests in the broader educational community in Klaipėda. By supporting public schools and engaging directly with motivated young learners, LCC strengthens long-term relationships with social partners, promotes English language excellence, and introduces school students to the opportunities available at LCC.

These initiatives not only highlight academic collaboration but also demonstrate LCC’s ongoing commitment to community engagement for sustaining meaningful partnerships in the region.
