On Thursday, February 20th, Dr. Ignas Kalpokas from the International Relations and Development department co-presented, with Julija Kalpokiene, a paper titled How Deep Is Your Fake? Challenges in Regulating Deepfakes. The presentation took place at the Constitution Hall of the Lithuanian Parliament. In it, Ignas and Julija presented their joint research on the deepfake technology, particularly focusing on the threats it poses to political processes and potential legal frameworks for limiting the technology's manipulative capacities. As the problem of deepfakes still remains under-researched, and this was only one of the first attempts in Lithuania to scientifically tackle it, the co-presenters hope to inspire further debate among academics, practitioners, and policymakers.'
