LCC student Viktoriia and alumna Valentyna recently participated in a migration simulation workshop organized by the Refugee Council of Lithuania within the “Volunteers Everywhere” project. Using the “A Journey into Exile” simulation methodology developed by JRS Canada, participants stepped into the roles of refugees and were challenged to make difficult decisions under pressure while navigating uncertainty, limited resources, and changing circumstances.

The simulation created a powerful space for reflection on migration, displacement, and human dignity. Through real-life testimonies and interactive activities, participants experienced how even a single decision can deeply impact a person’s future, safety, and opportunities. As Viktoriia reflected, “It made me realize the limited choices available.” The workshop encouraged participants to rethink assumptions, better understand the realities many displaced people face, and reflect on the importance of solidarity and inclusion within communities.

Beyond the simulation itself, the workshop also became an opportunity to connect with others working in migration and community support initiatives. We are grateful for this experience and look forward to future collaborations and conversations around migration, inclusion, and peacebuilding.
