Nika Dulevich: adventure time around the world through diverse and extensive work experience

2020-12-03

Nika Dulevich is an ambitious LCC International University alumna from Belarus who traveled around the world seeking knowledge and new experiences. Nika graduated from LCC in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree majoring in International Business Administration and minoring in Psychology.

Nika’s journey to LCC began primarily by following her older sister, who was a senior the year Nika entered LCC. Nika was fascinated by the stories she heard from her sister, as well as by the international atmosphere and the North American education pattern. “I was very fortunate that my sister’s sponsors, Myrl and Phyllis Nofziger, were kind enough to sponsor me after she had finished at LCC,” added Nika.

Nika’s main interest was in marketing and psychology, but she was also very fond of photography and took every opportunity to practice her skills during her years at LCC. Nika was an intern at the Communication Office and an official university photographer. At the same time, she was a member of the yearbook team and an intercultural leader for three years. “LCC offered various extracurricular activities and leadership positions that helped me to express my creative side while studying business and psychology." Later on, in her career, Nika managed to combine both her creativity and critical thinking in her professional life. Since Nika so enjoyed the cultural diversity that LCC offered, she and her friends also loved traveling and exploring countries near and far. Looking back, Nika remembers, “I have so many fun, crazy memories when we went couchsurfing in Mallorca, France, Norway, and all the other places we had visited.”

After graduation, like many other students, Nika was unsure about her career choice and decided to explore her options by taking every opportunity that came her way. After graduation and then studying economics at a summer school, Nika went to Dubai with her friends for a hospitality job. Soon after, she found herself at her first marketing-related position at a branding agency. “That's when I got a sense of what I would like to further pursue in my life,” commented Nika. Dubai was just the beginning of Nika’s professional journey. Nika is very creative, curious, and open-minded. She felt eager to move on with her life and pursue her interest in the field of psychology. Nika left Dubai and went to India for a month to study hypnotherapy. By understanding the importance of having good people skills and building a broad network of contacts, she soon found a new job there, in Communications. Due to personal circumstances, Nika was unable to stay in India so she moved back to Belarus, where she worked as a PR manager for an IT company. Always in need of a new experience, Nika decided to embark on another adventure, this time to China to teach English in Shanghai. While doing so, she also continued pursuing her professional love for marketing and gradually became an independent communications consultant. While in China, she found herself involved with various sustainability projects, which she continues to work on to this day.

Currently, Nika lives in two countries, going between Scotland and Belarus working as an Independent Marketing and Communication Consultant. At the same time, she is also enrolled in a Master’s program in Sustainable Business Development at the University of Glasgow. As a Belarusian, Nika was greatly affected by the recent events in her home country, which have dramatically altered her worldview. She is proud to be Belarusian, and in the future hopes to make a difference in her country and contribute to building a better and more sustainable society.

Looking back at her years at LCC, having since acquired diverse and extensive work and life experience, Nika has a few words of advice for current LCC students. “Enjoy your time at LCC. Don’t try to graduate and become a professional as soon as you can. Keep exploring and use all the facets LCC offers to get to know who you are and what you like. Try new things, give yourself the freedom to fail, and master the things you are good at. Remember that whether good or bad, it is still an experience that will help you move forward in life. Do not limit yourself. Go above and beyond to connect with people on a deeper level and make beautiful, lasting friendships. And above all, look at your years at LCC as an adventure. With all its initial challenges, seemingly impossible deadlines, the myriad of exams, and added weight of papers, this experience is also made richer by new friendships, perhaps even falling in love, or heartbreaks, and best of all, becoming a part of the LCC family. This LCC adventure is all to mold and sculpt you into the person you aspire to be.”
