Debi van Duin joined the LCC faculty in 2019 after retiring from a short stint as an International Student Coordinator in Canada. She has taught TESOL to students from Kindergarten to PhD’s in 9 different countries as diverse as North Korea and Mongolia to Canada for 27 years. Her education is in Intercultural Studies, TESOL, Linguistics and Literacy. In addition to doing an M.Div equivalent. Her thesis was in Phonological discrepancies in U.S. educated S. Korean teachers vs U.K. taught North Korean teachers. Areas of interest include Phonology, training Non-Native ESL and EFL teachers, Integrating Faith and Teaching, Skills-based Pedagogy and Academic Writing and Editing. Debi has been a presenter for ESL and EFL teacher training for Jeollabuk Do and Gyeongsangbuk Do Provincial Education Councils in Korea (as well as acting as conference coordinator), Lahore Catholic and Anglican school boards in Pakistan and co-presented at CELT in Hong Kong in 2013. She has taught cross-cultural training in Canada, Mongolia, China and India. She is currently teaching Public Speaking as well as acting as advisor for TEDX LCC and advising on academic writing and presentation for thesis students. She does watercolour painting, quilting and ethnic cooking in her spare time.
