Use Policies

Undergraduates

  1. All students enrolled in undergraduate courses at LCC International University are given library privileges. Each is given a personal account in the library automated system through which they can view and renew their checkouts and place holds on items checked out by other patrons.
  2. A library card, valid for the student‘s academic stay at the university, is given to each student for free, and must be presented to check items out from the library. There is a fee of 10 Lt to replace a lost card.
  3. Library patrons take responsibility for checked out items and in case of their loss or damage (handwriting, highlighting, missing pages, water damage, etc.) will have to pay their replacement cost plus a processing fee of 15 Lt.
  4. Each student may have a maximum of 20 items checked out at one time.
  5. Final project students are granted special permission to check out up to 30 items for an entire term.
  6. Regular loan period for books is 4 weeks and for DVDs and videos it is 3 days. Reference books (REF) and periodicals do not circulate.
  7. It is the student‘s responsibility to be aware of the due date of checked out items. This can be done by accessing the student‘s account in the library catalog.
  8. Fines for overdue items are calculated beginning the day after the due date and are not charged for days when the library is closed. Fines for overdue items are 1.25 Lt per item per day, with a maximum of 10 Lt. per item. The library system will email overdue alerts the day after an item is due, and again when it is 5 days overdue.
  9. A patron‘s account is blocked and borrowing privileges are suspended if items are overdue for 10 days, or if fines exceed 5 Lt.
  10. Library fees and fines are reviewed annually.
  11. The library reserves the right to recall any checked out item if there is a compelling reason to do so.
  12. Course textbooks are checked out for the entire term to students registered in the class. Textbooks returned after examination week will incur a fine of 10 Lt. per item.
  13. Textbooks for students registered in online classes and residing outside the Klaipėda region will be mailed to them at library expense and have to be returned at the student‘s expense.
  14. Reserved readings (RES) are to be checked out at the Circulation desk. The checkout period is indicated on each item. Fine for late return of Reserve items is a flat rate of 5 Lt per item per day.
  15. Overnight rule. Reserve items may be checked out overnight one hour before the library closes and must be returned not later than one hour after the library opens.
  16. Weekend and holidays rule. Reserve items may be checked out one hour before the library closes for a weekend or holiday, and must be returned not later than one hour after the library reopens.
  17. Summer loans. For students not enrolled in summer term courses, borrowing non-academic library resources over the summer is at the discretion of the library staff. Borrowing textbooks over the summer is at the discretion of the instructor.

Graduates

English Language Institute (ELI) Students

The resources of the library are available to the English Language Institute Students. Reading novels for pleasure and reading magazine for information are vital activities for learning English as an international language. For those current Institute students who are seeking admission to LCC, this is an especially a fine opportunity for them to seek what holdings we offer and how the library operates. This opportunity is included in the tuition that the students pay.

  1. Library cards would be issued by the librarians to only those Institute students who request cards.
  2. Each ELI student will receive a brochure of library rules, hours, services, etc. and a brief library tour from one of the library personnel.
  3. ELI students are allowed to use any of the Balčiūnai Library materials and services within the library.
  4. ELI students are allowed to check out a maximum of 5 fiction and juvenile books at one time for the entire ELI period.
  5. A maximum of 3 video tapes/DVDs may be checked out for a 3 day period.
  6. All materials must be returned a day before the end of the ELI.
  7. If a student loses a book he/she must pay a replacement fee.
  8. Library fine for overdue item – 1,25 Lt/day.

Note! If the book is not returned, the following measures may be taken:

  • Students may be asked not to return to class until the book is returned and the fines paid.
  • Students with outstanding fines may not register for another course in the future and will not receive a completion certificate for the current semester.

Summer Language Institute (SLI) Students

  1. All SLI students are allowed to use any of the Balčiūnai Library materials and services within the library.
  2. SLI student ID card is to be used as library card and is valid throughout the entire SLI.
  3. Each SLI student will receive a brochure of library rules, hours, services, etc. and a brief library tour from one of the library personnel.
  4. SLI students are allowed to check out books in all subject areas (except the ones placed on reserve or reference) and audio/video tapes, DVDs.
  5. SLI students are allowed to check out a maximum of 5 books at one time for the entire SLI period.
  6. A maximum of 3 video tapes/DVDs may be checked out for a 3 day period.
  7. All materials must be returned a day before the end of the SLI.
  8. If a student loses a book he/she must pay a replacement fee.
  9. Library fine for overdue item – 1,25 Lt/day.

Staff & Faculty

  1. All faculty and staff will be provided with a library card for use during their time of service at LCC. This card should be presented each time an item is checked out.
  2. Except for items with special checkout periods such as videos and DVDs, checkout period for faculty and staff will be one semester with one renewal permitted.
  3. All items are subject to recall after two weeks from the date of check out if another patron has placed a hold on the item.
  4. Faculty and staff are not charged fines.
  5. At the end of the semester, all checked out items need to be returned to the library, or renewed if renewals remain. Failure to do this will result in the account being blocked.
  6. Before leaving LCC, faculty and staff should check their accounts to make sure all items have been returned.
  7. Textbooks for long term faculty use will be handled on an individual basis.

Alumni

  1. All alumni can have access to LCC library holdings.
  2. The cost of an alumni library card is 10 Lt.
  3. Alumni are allowed to check out a maximum of 5 library items at one time.
  4. Library books may be signed out for a 4-week period; video and audio cassettes may be signed out for a 3-day period.
  5. Periodicals, reference books, and reserve materials can not be removed from the library.
  6. LCC library is a subscriber of online databases. Alumni can have access to them only from campus.

Guest Users

Guest users of the library belong to one of the following groups: missionaries and priests/pastors residing in Klaipėda.

  1. Each person wishing to obtain a library card needs to fill out an application with a photocopy of a valid ID and a recent photograph attached.
  2. By signing the application a person agrees to the terms and conditions of LCC library use.
  3. The applicant needs to pay a 50.00 Lt annual fee and a one-time payment of 10.00 Lt for the library card.
  4. After the library receives the application along with the payment, a library card is issued within 10 days and the applicant becomes a guest user of the library.
  5. The card is valid for 1 calendar year.
  6. A guest of the library can check out the maximum of 2 items for a period of 2 weeks.
  7. After 2 weeks the books need to be returned, they may not be renewed.
  8. If a person does not return library items on their due date, he/she needs to pay a fine of 1.25 Lt per item for each day overdue.

Klaipėda Residents

Klaipėda residents can use the all library services without checking resources out as this is a privilege restricted to the university community only.

Privacy Policy

All information regarding which items a library user has consulted or checked out is confidential and will not be disclosed. If a library item is checked out and another patron needs it, a staff person will put a hold on it and when it is returned will notify the person that requested it. Library assistant working at the circulation desk can not tell anyone who has a particular item out.
